📖 Chapter Reading — Akash's Letter
Akash lives in a village . There is shortage of water in his village . The villagers decided to save each and every drop of water during the rainy season . They decided to implement this idea as soon as it starts raining . The news gets published in the newspapers . Akash receives a letter from his cousin Pooja in this regard . He gives a quick reply .
Akash एक गाँव में रहता है। उसके गाँव में पानी की कमी है। गाँव वालों ने वर्षा ऋतु में पानी की एक-एक बूँद बचाने का निर्णय लिया। उन्होंने तय किया कि बारिश शुरू होते ही इस विचार को लागू करेंगे। यह समाचार newspapers में प्रकाशित हुआ। Akash को इस संबंध में अपनी cousin Pooja का पत्र मिलता है और वह जल्दी से उत्तर देता है।

I am really happy to receive your letter regarding the ideas of water conservation . You are aware of the things happening around you. I appreciate your curiosity and concern for the natural resources . Keep it up! These qualities will definitely help you to grow as a responsible citizen . You have rightly guessed that I have attended the inaugural function of Water Conservation Programme in my village.
मुझे water conservation के विचारों से संबंधित आपका पत्र पाकर बहुत खुशी हुई। आपको अपने आसपास होने वाली घटनाओं की जानकारी रहती है। मैं natural resources के प्रति आपकी जिज्ञासा और चिंता की सराहना करता हूँ। ये गुण आपको एक जिम्मेदार नागरिक बनने में निश्चित रूप से मदद करेंगे। आपने सही अनुमान लगाया कि मैंने अपने गाँव में Water Conservation Programme के उद्घाटन समारोह में भाग लिया था।
The word conservation means to save something. It may be any natural resource like water , energy , soil , plants and animals . Conservation of water means conserving water in ponds , wells and in the fields to raise the level of ground water .
Conservation का अर्थ है किसी चीज को बचाना। यह कोई भी natural resource हो सकता है जैसे water, energy, soil, plants और animals। Water conservation का अर्थ ponds, wells और fields में पानी को सुरक्षित रखना है ताकि ground water का level बढ़ाया जा सके।
We are living in a challenging era . Ruthless cutting of trees and destruction of forests have resulted in rainfall . This leads to the scarcity of water almost everywhere which is adversely affecting the cultivation of crops . How can we be happy with thirsty soil? If the fields do not get plenty of water the production of food gets affected and the villagers start migrating towards cities . The cities get overcrowded resulting in air pollution and water pollution .
हम एक चुनौतीपूर्ण युग में रह रहे हैं। पेड़ों की कठोरता से कटाई और forests के destruction के कारण rainfall प्रभावित हुआ है। इससे लगभग हर जगह water scarcity हो रही है, जिसका crops की cultivation पर बुरा प्रभाव पड़ता है। यदि fields को पर्याप्त water नहीं मिलता तो food production प्रभावित होता है और villagers cities की ओर migrate करने लगते हैं। Cities overcrowded हो जाते हैं और air तथा water pollution बढ़ता है।
The government has motivated all the sections of the society to come forward and save each and every drop of water . We are the witness to the emptied and dried up rivers , ponds , wells and tubewells . We should not sit silently . Under the Water Conservation Programme we are trying to harvest rainwater at different levels .
Government ने society के सभी sections को आगे आकर पानी की एक-एक बूँद बचाने के लिए प्रेरित किया है। हम खाली और सूख चुकी rivers, ponds, wells और tubewells के गवाह हैं। हमें चुपचाप नहीं बैठना चाहिए। Water Conservation Programme के अंतर्गत अलग-अलग स्तरों पर rainwater harvesting करने का प्रयास किया जा रहा है।
The farmers will be made to store water in their fields by building Medh or Bunds around their fields. Similarly, water bodies like wells and ponds will be deepened and cleaned . The old dams will be repaired and new dams will be constructed across the rivers so that we can conserve more water.
Farmers अपने fields में Medh या Bunds बनाकर water store करेंगे। Wells और ponds जैसे water bodies को गहरा और साफ किया जाएगा। पुराने dams की मरम्मत की जाएगी और rivers पर नए dams बनाए जाएंगे ताकि अधिक water conserve किया जा सके।
What a wonderful scene it will be when our wells , ponds and rivers will be full of water and the children will be seen swimming in the ponds of their village . The tubewells will automatically get recharged and will continue to give us water throughout the year .
कितना wonderful दृश्य होगा जब हमारे wells, ponds और rivers water से भर जाएंगे और गाँव के बच्चे ponds में swimming करते दिखाई देंगे। Tubewells अपने आप recharge हो जाएंगे और पूरे year हमें water देते रहेंगे।
I would like to mention that the government alone cannot do everything . Similarly, shouting slogans will not be of any help . Water is essential for everybody . So, everybody including we children should participate in the Water Conservation Programme . I have seen all the people voluntarily coming forward and working hand in hand for this noble cause .
लेखक कहना चाहता है कि केवल government ही सब कुछ नहीं कर सकती। केवल slogans बोलने से भी कोई लाभ नहीं होगा। Water everybody के लिए essential है। इसलिए children सहित सभी लोगों को Water Conservation Programme में participate करना चाहिए। लेखक ने सभी लोगों को इस noble cause के लिए voluntarily आगे आकर hand in hand काम करते देखा है।
