It was raining outside. Anandi was fast asleep dreaming of rainbows. She woke up to look out of her window. There was a huge, bright rainbow across a clear blue sky.
Anandi ran out to the garden with Milli, her favourite cat.
Anandi loved to draw and paint. Today, she wanted to paint the flowers of her garden with the colours of the rainbow.
And lo! There were beautiful flowers all over the garden. The Sun was up there shining in its yellow glory.
She coloured one flower with violet, and another with the indigo of the rainbow. One with the blue and leaves with the green…. One with orange…. One with red….
But she left the yellow so that the Sun may look bright and gay.
After giving colours to the flowers and the Sun, the rainbow was gone……

Anandi’s Rainbow is about a girl named Anandi who loves to draw and paint.
One day, it was raining outside. Anandi was fast asleep and dreaming of rainbows. She woke up and looked out of her window.
She saw a huge, bright rainbow across a clear blue sky. She ran out to the garden with Milli, her favourite cat.
Anandi wanted to paint the flowers of her garden with the colours of the rainbow.
She coloured flowers with violet, indigo, blue, green, orange and red. She left the yellow colour so that the Sun could look bright and gay.
After giving colours to the flowers and the Sun, the rainbow disappeared.
The chapter then encourages children to speak about rainbows and the colours of the sky during sunrise and sunset.
In the activity, children go outside, observe the sky and clouds, identify shapes in the clouds and draw what they see.
Children also watch the sky at sunrise, sunset and at night and share their experience with the class.
Finally, children write a few sentences about themselves and colour the Indian flag.

एक दिन बाहर बारिश हो रही थी। Anandi गहरी नींद में सो रही थी और सपने में इंद्रधनुष देख रही थी। जागने के बाद उसने खिड़की से बाहर देखा।
उसे साफ नीले आकाश में एक बहुत बड़ा और चमकीला इंद्रधनुष दिखाई दिया। वह अपनी पसंदीदा बिल्ली Milli के साथ बगीचे में चली गई।
Anandi अपने बगीचे के फूलों को इंद्रधनुष के रंगों से रंगना चाहती थी।
उसने एक फूल को violet, दूसरे को indigo, फिर blue, green, orange और red रंग से रंगा। उसने yellow रंग को छोड़ दिया, ताकि सूर्य चमकीला और सुंदर दिखाई दे।
फूलों और सूर्य को रंग देने के बाद इंद्रधनुष गायब हो गया।
इसके बाद बच्चों से इंद्रधनुष देखने, उसे कब और कहाँ देखने तथा sunrise और sunset के समय आकाश के रंग के बारे में बातचीत कराई जाती है।
गतिविधि में बच्चों को बाहर जाकर आकाश और बादलों को देखने, बादलों में दिखाई देने वाले आकार पहचानने तथा उन्हें चित्र के रूप में बनाने के लिए कहा गया है।
बच्चों को sunrise, sunset और night के समय आकाश को देखने तथा अपना अनुभव कक्षा में साझा करने के लिए भी कहा गया है।
अंत में बच्चों को अपने बारे में कुछ वाक्य लिखने और Indian flag में रंग भरने की गतिविधि दी गई है।
